Group Litigation Order for British Steel Coke Oven Workers

On 20 January 2017, Mr Justice Turner, at the High Court, made a Group Litigation Order[i] for occupational diseases associated with coke fuel plant works operated by British Steel – primarily affecting coke oven workers. Claims are for damages and loss for personal injury, extending to:

  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease;
  • Bladder Cancer;
  • Chronic Bronchitis;
  • Temporary Exacerbation of Asthma;
  • Lung Cancer; and
  • Squamous Cell Skin Cancer.[ii]

The High Court has set a closing date for claims notification of 23 February 2018. Thus, the final opportunity for potential claimants to apply to the lead solicitor for consideration to join the GLO is 14 February.
